The Ash Wednesday Storm "Nor-Easter"hit Strathamere in March 1962. It was also called The Great Atlantic Storm of 1962 because it destroyed a lot of the land. The storm lasted for 3 days long , and it destructed the eastern coast of New Jersey and all the way down to North and South Carolina. The waves reached 20 ft high and the winds blew as fast as 70 mph, which reached the U.S Beaches. Even the Barrier islands were destroyed and those were used for hurricanes and tidal waves. There was also a lot of Beach houses that were destroyed along the oceanside.

Causes?

An unusual combination of three pressure areas, combined with atmospheric conditions of the Spring equinox, which causes the high tides.

Effects?

This split Long Beach island into many pieces and nearly destroyed the whole island. It killed about 40 people and injured over 1,000. The coastal areas from North Carolina and New York were damaged and changed forever by the wind, waves, and record high tides. In six states, it caused millions of dollars in property damage. Thousands of houses and businesses were flooded and many were destroyed
